Matthew 7:15-23.

Jesus says to beware of false prophets, wolves in sheep’s clothing. He says we will know them by the lives they lead. And he tells us that not everyone who calls him Lord and performs miracles in his name will enter heaven but only those who do the will of the Father.

Just because I don’t see much good fruit in my life doesn’t mean there isn’t any.

But what is more important than looking good is doing the will of the Father, says Jesus.

Pastor Kim talked a lot about this on Wednesday.

Since my life has born very little good fruit, am I at least doing the will of the Father or am I a wolf in sheep’s clothing?

Today I think I was a wolf. I’m teaching the Odyssey at summer school.

Instead of focusing on it, which is my job, I started today with Matthew, chapter 6. Although all my students are Christian, they were confused over the sudden introduction of the Bible in our lesson.

In previous days, I had brought Jesus into our discussion of Odysseus’s hardships and sufferings by talking a little about my life, giving some of my testimony, contrasting the will of God to the clearly human will of Greek gods.

Today, however, I hammered the kids with the Bible. I hadn’t prayed about doing it, I hadn’t sought God’s will by paying attention to the QT passage.

As a result, in trying to show good fruit I proved myself as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

O Lord, let me attend better to your will in my daily life. Let me show your love by telling others how you have entered my life and redeemed me. Let me not try to be what I am not.
