Edward’s QT8 Aug. 2026.Summary: Because the Levites serve the Lord and receive no inheritance in Canaan, the people are to support them with their tithes. In the new land, the people are not to imitate the detestable practices of the nations around them.Question: Am I content with God alone, resting on him and not on pensions, bank accounts or real estate?Sharing: When I was fifty, I lost my teachers pension in the financial collapse that began with the Enron scandal. At first I was shocked but within months I was actually relieved because my fund’s growth had captured my attention and I speculated on early retirement. Now I had to work longer and show my trust in God’s care of me.
My anxiety of the future vanished and has never returned. My future is in his hands. It is true that I have a small national pension from Canada because of my age, but it is so little that I cannot live on it. My future remains firmly in God’s hands where it belongs.Since retiring as principal of my school, I have lived modestly with my wife. We keep our worship and church community at the center of our lives doing our best to maintain a posture of trusting God, which is not easy.
Since our marriage, the Lord has truly cared for us, not allowing us the wealth we wouldn’t know what to do with nor letting us fall into the debt we began our married life with. We are not Levites, but sometimes it feels like we are, holding out our hands to God.Application: to prayerfully seek God’s will in my search for part-time work since I have knowledge, skills and energy that need use.Prayer: Lord, let me remain restless for you. Let me not seek improper work for my mind and hands. Inspire me to fulfill the writing tasks you have put on my desk.
