A Lamp Covering Evil
16 In the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat began his reign as king of Judah. 17 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 18 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 19 Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.
20 In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king. 21 So Jehoram[b] went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night his army, however, fled back home. 22 To this day Edom has been in rebellion against Judah. Libnah revolted at the same time.
23 As for the other events of Jehorams reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 24 Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.
Have you ever heard about 'Aladdin and the magic l&rdquo? Whenever Aladdin has a problem, he calls out a lamp fairy, and the fairy, Genie solves everything. In modern world, however, pepole have a lamp syndrome. It refers to a generalized 'anxiety disorder' that worries, worries, and anxiety frequently thinking about what is unlikely to happen as if calling out a lamp fairy. The text we will meditate today is that Gods promise to David covers Jehorams many sins and continues the throne of South Juda. Lets think about the lanterns that cover evil through the words.
First, our lives have no choice but to do evil.
The names of the kings of North Israel and South Juda in the Elisha period are the same as Jehoram, so the king of North Israel is called Joram from the verse 16th. In the 16th year of Jehoshaphats rule, he began joint rule with Jehoram, and two years later, Yehoram became the king of North Israel. Five years later, Jehoshaphat died and Jehoram began to rule alone. Why did South Juda, who went on a completely different spiritual path when both countries were going through the worst times? Jehoshaphat was a good king who had done honestly before the Lord, but he chose to peace with King Ahab of North Israel, who could not become one spiritually, and made his son Jehoram marry to the daughter of Ahab. He became Ahab and in-laws in North Israel, who rebelled against David and established a kingdom, believing that forming a marriage alliance with the worlds smart and rich Ahab family would fill his son with even greater wealth and glory. The cross is not a compromising peace. Because of Jehoshaphats misjudgment, Judas is forced into a hole of evil. After that, Jehoram kills good and trusted baby brothers and their servants, and he became one with the evil wife and did evil in the eyes of Jehovah. They betray God in the best environment with the faith of their parents and the wealth of their wives. If you eat well and live well, you all betray God. Neither the king of Benhadad of Gentiles, the king of Joram of North Israel without faith, nor the king of Jehoram of South Juda, a descendant of David, struggled with his own power, but the result of life without Jesus was only evil. The Bible said, Everyone has sinned but has not reached Gods glory (Rom 3:23), and what we always think and plan with our hearts is always evil (Gen 6:5). So, it is faith that I know and admit that I am bound to do evil.
Second, you do not destroy it because of the word of promise.
God did not destroy the Jehovah of Southern Juda, which is much more evil than the Joram of North Israel, because he promised to always give lanterns to the descendants of David. According to Rev. 21:22-23, the Lamb Jesus Christ becomes a light that illuminates us. The lantern you promised to always give to Davids descendants is Jesus Christ, the light that illuminates the darkness of evil. Jesus illuminated the many sins that filled us, covered us with the greatest love, and fulfilled the promise of salvation. Because of the promise of the Lords unilateral hand, all our evil was covered by the lanterns of Christ, giving us the opportunity to live and avoid destruction once again.
Third, God will be a lamp because you are betrayed.
After David took control of Edom, Edom was a nation of Judah. But when Edom declared independence, Jehoram, angry to the top of his head, went to conquer with all his soldiers. Jehoram has no power, but his pride flies in the sky. Edoms betrayal was punishment given by God, so it was not an incident that could be solved by himself. Eventually, Edom succeeded in independence. Jehoram must have known about the prophets of North Israel, Elijah, and Davids lantern did not destroy them. But he believed in Gods giving him a lantern and refused to apply it into it. Eventually, as Elijah predicted in his letter, his intestines came out and relocated and died. This is the result of only seeing the lantern of Jesus Christ from a distance and refusing to enter it. You have to cry at the evil of the country, but you have to be betrayed because you do not. This is called the conclusion of life. To light yourself up with a lantern of Christ is to hear the words with the voice of God giving me today. Life never becomes empty. Still, he said that he left a replacement for the throne. This is what has become a lamp that covers evil.
Community confession is the testimony of a new leader who has been at the small group for 15 years after joining to the church. Church life was an important part of his life, and he went to a medical school to become a medical missionary. Since the beginning of his marriage, he thoroughly attended the services and gave tithing faithfully, but I criticized the sermon and the church, saying why do you generalize hardship as a blessing when there are people who are religious without difficulties? Still, the pastors words, 'Stay close at church community' put a lot of pressure and I couldnt leave. I ignored my wife, judged her, and gave her a hard time with all the blood, but I reigned like a king with pride that I was the best husband with good faith. However, one day, during surgery, the motor nerves were damaged and the patient was unable to walk immediately after the operation. When I reached the limit of having nothing to do but wait for the damaged nerves to be regenerated, numerous words and testimonies were matched like a puzzle, and I finally shed tears of repentance as I heard the words pastor Kim gave me. I live hard for myself and my family and will be humiliated without knowing the reason on Judgment Day. Thank you for letting me see and realizing the words of Pastor Kim Yang-jae, a prophet of this era, live and realize them.
Our lives have no choice but to do evil. Admitting this, we are doing QT every day, and if we shine the words of a lantern on ourselves, He will cover up our evil. I pray that the history of lanterns that cover evil like this will occur in our families, companies, workplaces, churches, and countries.
