You are my Son
(Heb. 1:1 ~ 14)
Hebrews is the only book that describes Jesus as a priest who fulfilled his ministry of once-for-all redemption. It says whoever believe in Him in this time of trials will be his heir. Lets see who the Son, the supreme and ultimate revelation is.
1. He is the son who sustains all things by the Word. God has spoken to us through the prophets at many times and in various ways such as trials, healing, and miracles in order to appoint us as his heirs of all things, The word we hadnt understood suddenly got across to us when spoken by the Son. He came to us as a human being to fulfill his ministry of redemption as God meant him to. So it is with our life. When we understand Jesus crucifixion and the Word, we can convert our shadow life into a substantial one. Without the application of carrying our cross, we cant understand Jesus crucifixion for our salvation. Trial is a spiritual synonym of glorification. The Lord holds all things by his mighty Word. Thus by the Word, can we also hold everything. We impress others as much as we accept our faults, and God raises those who see their sins.
2. He is the son who is much superior to angels. Theres no name as beautiful as Jesus. Even though he is the creator, he came to us as a humble carpenters son. Thats why people prefer angels to him. We rely more on the angelic people who have money, power, refinement, knowledge, and morality than Jesus. This tendency misleads us to heresy. Therefore, we need to focus on the Son, looking for the guidance of the Holy Spirit rather than our own right and wrong criteria. We need a community because we cant focus on the Lord by ourselves. We need to understand that we can even manage winds and flames of fire by dwelling in Jesus Christ. The truly great solution is our act of referring to God because of our unsolved problems rather than merely resolving them. We can have this attitude by focusing on Jesus, the Son, who is much superior to angels.
3. He is the son who doesnt change forever. The Son is everlasting and has sovereignty over all things. Righteousness is accepting that the circumstance that God gave us is fair. Its accepting that God is fair whether we have bankruptcy, or our children fail in their university entrance exams, or we get a cancer. This attitude enables us to escape from the temptation of injustice. The Lord himself, who gave us our present circumstances, is justice. Therefore, loving righteousness is to love our circumstance and incidents around us as they are. Without knowing Gods justice, righteousness, and his scepter, we will have nothing but suffering. Yet when we interpret our circumstances as Gods righteousness, God will anoint us with the oil of joy. This doesnt mean that we should thank God for everything unconditionally. We need to hate injustice. Adding to the Word is interpreting it in favor of ourselves without facing reality. We simply need to hold on to the Lord of all things rather than appearance and human ability, Thats how we can be our Lords heir of all things in our communities of home and church.
Heres a testimony from a married couple of our community. Its about a deacon, a doctor, written in QTin, Hebrews chapter 1. God had spoken to him through many prophets in many ways. Then Jesus visited him through his wifes affairs. The deacon tried to divorce his wife. She desperately served him as a nurses aide, yet she ended up being hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital, suffering from anorexia and depression. He left the church, saying 'How long do I have to be tied up to church? I gave up everything because of my wife. Its not fair!' Pouring liquor on her head in front of his 5-year-old son, he shouted 'You mom is an alcoholic!' It didnt work. Later, however, being impressed by her community members proclaiming 'God is righteous!' even in their extreme suffering, she quit drinking by the power of the Word as she opened up her sins. Then God drove her back to church through the incident of the deacons disk surgery. Touched by the sermon about God hitting Jacobs socket, the deacon wept a lot. Thus she held her husbands mind and she became a small group leader along with the deacon. Now he is a good mentor for those who are suffering from the issue of divorce and addiction. As for his wife, she is cured of her old anorexia and depression. He says, 'I hated our community which urged me to see my sins of chasing money and success. I was covered with the oil of anger. I thank God for making me his heir of salvation by breaking the backbone of my pride. I pray that I will be used by God after changing my dirty clothes through the sanctification of the Word. To him, everything was used as healing herbs for salvation. The Son cleanses our sins and holds all things by the Word. What we need to do is simply listen to 'You are my Son.'
For to which of the angels did God ever say, 'You are my Son today I have become your Father'? (Heb. 1:5a)
