Today’s passage is Numbers 15:1-16. When they make a special offering after they enter the promised land, the Israelites also need to include some fine flour and some wine. The same rules apply to foreigners living with them.
An Aroma Pleasing to God
The phrase “as an aroma pleasing to the Lord” is repeated three times in today’s passage (3,7, 13).
Pleasing the Lord needs to be uppermost in my mind. How am I to do that?
Mostly it’s done through attitude.
Three different animals are given as examples of the special offering: a lamb, a ram, and a bull. The size is the only difference. The bigger the animal, the more flour mixed with olive oil is presented and the greater the volume of wine. But “You and the foreigner shall be the same before the Lord” (15) if the attitude towards God is the same and the same rules are followed.
How do I please the Lord?
By wanting to please him. And how do I show I want to please him?
By doing what he likes me to do, which is to give him the very best of what I have, my time, my money, my words, my talents, and my complete trust in him, showing him that I hold him in higher esteem than myself.
Easter is coming. Our church asks us to invite people to the Easter worship service.
Every year I don’t have anyone to bring. I always have the same two reasons for not doing it.
First, most of the people I know are already members of our church. Second, most foreigners I have invited politely decline because they aren’t interested in Jesus or organized religion.
I think the real issue is my attitude, however. I think I haven’t held God in high enough esteem to convince at least one person to come.
I think I haven’t wanted to make a “pleasing aroma to God” with my invitation and perhaps have someone actually come to see why I’m excited about Jesus and what he’s done in my life.
Because it’s taken me so many years of attending Wooridle to change, I worry that just one worship service will not be enough to convince someone new to stay. In other words, my worry betrays my lack of trust in God. That attitude is not a pleasing aroma to God and I want to please God with my life and my service to him.
Application: Invite people to Easter with an attitude that pleases God.
Lord, in this most important of all festivals, let me repent of my worldly fear, show my trust in you and put the salvation of someone else as my priority.
하나님께 드리는 향기로운 예물
오늘 큐티 본문은 민수기 15장 1-16절 말씀입니다.
이스라엘 백성들이 약속의 땅, 가나안으로 들어간 후 특별한 제물을 드릴 때, 그들은 또한
최상의 밀가루와 포도주를 준비해야 했습니다. 이 율례는 이스라엘 백성들뿐만 아니라 타국인들에게도 똑같이 적용되었습니다.
여호와께 드리는 향기로운 제물
“여호와께 드리는 향기로운 제물”이라는 어구가 오늘 본문에 세 번이나 반복적으로 사용되고 있습니다. (3. 7, 13절) 하나님을 기쁘게 하는 일이 나의 마음속의 가장 높은 곳에 자리 잡아야 하는데 그렇게 하려면 어떻게 해야 할까요?
대개 그것은 (하나님을 향한) 태도에 따라 결정되었습니다. .
오늘 특별한 제물로 각기 다른 세 종류의 동물인 숫양과 암양, 수송아지가 제시되고 있습니다. 제물의 크기만 다를 뿐, 덩치가 크면 클수록 올리브 오일과 반죽한 더 많은 양의 밀가루반죽과 포도주가 함께 드려졌습니다. 그러나 “너희에게나 타국인에게나 여호와 앞에 같은 율례이니라.” (15절) 하나님을 향한 자세만 같다면, 같은 율례가 적용되었습니다.
어떻게 하나님을 기쁘게 해 드릴까요?
먼저 하나님을 기쁘게 하는 것을 간절히 바라는 것인데, 어떻게 내가 하나님을 기쁘게 하기를
원하는지를 보여드릴 수 있을까요?
하나님이 내가 하기를 원하시는 것을 함으로써, 내가 가진 최고의 것, 즉 나의 시간, 돈, 말, 달란트, 그리고 온전한 믿음과 같은 것들을 드림으로써 나 자신보다 하나님을 더 높이고 있다는 것을 보여드리는 것입니다.
부활절이 다가오고 있습니다. 우리들교회는 부활절 예배에 사람들을 초청하도록 권합니다.
저는 매년 데려올 사람이 없었습니다. 항상 두 가지 같은 이유 때문이었습니다.
첫째는 내가 아는 대부분의 사람들은 이미 우리들교회에 다니고 있기 때문이고, 두 번째는
내가 초청하는 대부분의 외국인들은 예수님이나 종교단체에 관심이 없다는 이유로 정중하게 나의 청을 거절하기 때문입니다.
하지만 진짜 문제는 나의 태도에 있는 것 같습니다.
적어도 한 사람이라도 초청에 응할 정도로 내가 하나님을 제대로 높이지 못하고 있는 나의 자세 때문인 것 같습니다.
나는 사람들을 초대하면서 그 행동이 “하나님을 기쁘게 하는 향기로운 예물”이 되는 것과 그들이 실제로 와서 왜 내가 예수님에 열광하는지와 내 삶속에 그 분이 행하신 일들을 보도록 하는 것을 진정 원하지는 않았던 것 같습니다.
나 자신도 변하기 위해서 우리들교회에 츨석 하면서도 오랜 시간이 걸렸기 때문에, 새로운
사람이 정착하는데 한 번의 예배로는 부족하다는 걱정을 했습니다. 다시 말해서, 나의 염려는 하나님의 뜻을 저버리는 것이었습니다. 이런 태도는 하나님을 기쁘게 하는 향기로운 예물을 드리는 것이 아니며 나의 삶과 예배로 하나님을 기쁘게 하기를 원하는 것입니다.
적용: 하나님을 기쁘게 하려는 자세로 부활절에 사람들을 초청하겠습니다.
주님! 모든 절기중 가장 중요한 부활절 주일에, 나의 세상적인 두려움을 회개하고 나의 믿음이 드러나도록 하옵시고 누군가의 구원을 내가 해야 할 일의 우선순위의 가장 앞에 놓을 수 있도록 인도하여 주시옵소서!
