Today's passage is Nehemiah 7:66-8:1.
The people and their animals are counted. The amount of money, priestly garments and temple articles are counted.
Everyone goes to their own town and then reassembles at the Water Gate to ask Ezra to read the book of the law.
"There were 736 horses, 245 mules, 435 camels and 6,720 donkeys."
Everything in my life needs to be counted. For most of my life, however, I didn't count things, especially my money.
When I understood that I needed to tithe in order to trust the Lord, I had to count my money so that I could give the correct amount.
I began to become aware of my finances.
When I did, I was able to see how much I needed to live, and I found I had more than enough.
When I recovered my worship and went to Sunday and Wednesday worship and did my QT and went to mokjang, I had to count my time.
At first I thought I never had enough hours. But I did.
Time is a big struggle for me still because I don't count the hours of my work.
I just work and keep on working. My wife often has to call me to stop and come home.
When we moved to our current apartment, my wife wanted to buy a new and bigger fridge. I agreed, which was a mistake.
Now we have a fridge full of food that we can't or don't count.
We don't know what's in the fridge.
We don't buy food according to what our diet should be because we think we have to eat the food that we already bought and didn't count.
Now my wife has a sick stomach and we have to change our diet.
I don't count my clothes. I have only a partial knowledge of what I own.
I often can't find what I want to wear.
Because there are so many clothes there is always laundry to do.
I need to count. I need to be aware of what I have so that God's order can come further into my life.
On my return to Korea, I will lead my wife to start our counting.
